A house pad is the level, packed ground your house, barn or shop sits on. We build house pads on rural and suburban lots around Trinity, Decatur, Athens, Hartselle and Priceville. Some lots get cut into a slope. Others get built up with fill until the pad sits at the elevation the plan calls for.
Most pad jobs start with clearing the building footprint and stripping the topsoil off. From there we bring fill in, pack it in lifts and shape the ground so water sheds away. We work to the grade your builder or your plan gives us. Estimates are free, and you can call or text (256) 303-7210.

Every pad starts with the footprint. We clear the building spot and the working room around it, then strip off the topsoil and roots. Topsoil is soft and it will not hold a building. It comes off and gets stacked out of the way or spread elsewhere on the lot.
Then the pad gets cut, filled or both. On a slope we cut the high side down and move that dirt to the low side. On flat or low ground we bring fill in and build the pad up in lifts. Each layer gets packed before the next goes on. Most of that spreading and leveling is dozer work, and the trackhoe loads and shapes.
Water is the other half of a pad job. Alabama's residential code calls for the ground to fall 6 inches in the first 10 feet. We shape the pad and the ground around it so runoff moves away from the building. Your builder sets the pad elevation, and permit rules come from your city or county, so check both early.
Barndominiums, shop buildings and pole barns need the same site prep as a house. The pad has to be level, packed and sitting above the water that crosses the lot. We take this work on across Morgan, Limestone, Lawrence and Madison counties.
A pad gets built wider than the building so the edges hold and there is room to work. Some owners want the finished pad capped with crusher run or gravel for a firm surface. We can bring that material in by the load on our own dump trucks.
The way in matters too. Concrete trucks and lumber deliveries need a route onto the property, and so do our dump trucks. We can cut and rock a gravel driveway to the building while the pad work is going on.
The ground here sits on limestone and chert, and rock turns up shallow in a lot of spots. When the cut runs into rock, that turns into rock removal with a ripper on the trackhoe. Bigger stone gets stacked out of the way on the property or hauled off.
Low ground is the other problem. A pad that sits too low collects water off the rest of the lot. We build it up with fill until the pad stands above the ground around it. Then the rough grade carries water past the building and off the pad.
Wet winters and springs are normal in the Tennessee Valley, and the clay here holds water. Pad work goes better in a dry stretch, so timing matters when the ground is soft. We look at the site, plan the approach and tell you what the lot needs.

The debris leaves the property and the dirt gets rough graded back out. Water is shaped to run away from the pad, the drive or the house. Then we look the job over with you.
